Each week, the Missourian highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

The records: The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services surveyed 1,510 adults and 824 children on their physical activity and eating habits. The 2009 survey provides information on ways the adults and children think they can improve their health. The information also divides the surveyed by age, gender, race, income, residency and education background.
Why you'd want them: There are often reports on the unhealthy living and eating habits of Americans across the country, but these statistics give a narrow view of how people live in Boone County and Columbia. It may also give people ideas of how to live healthier as well as how to teach children about the benefits of a more active and healthy lifestyle.
Where you get the records: Go to http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/Health/, then scroll down to the "What's New in Local Public Health" section and choose the bullet point that says, "Healthy Lifestyle Initiative Survey Results" (it is the eighth from the bottom). Click the link that says, "click here" for results. The information will download as a pdf file.
How much it will cost: The information is free.
