COLUMBIA — A free gas card contest from the Missouri Department of Transportation started Monday as an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of drunken driving.
Four $20 gas cards, which were donated by MFA Oil, will be given to randomly selected entrants who complete an online quiz about drunken driving, according to the MoDOT website.
"In Missouri, someone is killed or injured in an alcohol-related traffic crash every 1.7 hours," according to the MoDOT website. "A total of 281 people were killed and 1,141 seriously injured in crashes involving an impaired driver in 2009."
The "Drive Clear in the New Year" contest runs through Friday. Contest entrants must be at least 18 years old. A link to the quiz is posted on the agency's website.
