Rep. Stephen Webber plans to attract biotechnology jobs

COLUMBIA — State Rep. Stephen Webber, D-Columbia, plans to use his new post as ranking Democrat on the House Economic Development Committee to attract data centers and biotechnology jobs to central Missouri.

Webber announced his new post in a news release Thursday.

The 27-member committee considers legislation intended to promote commerce, to spur industrial growth and expansion, and to create and retain jobs.

"One of the most important things we can do to get our economy going again is facilitate an employer's ability to bring good quality jobs to Missouri," Webber said in a news release. "I'm going to do everything I can to help businesses succeed in our state."

Webber is beginning his second term in the House after running unopposed in the Democratic primary and against Republican Paul Szopa in November. He also serves on the House Rules Committee and the Workforce Development and Workforce Safety (Labor) Committee.

The sentiment is good, and realization of some actual jobs would definitely be good, but is it too much to ask for specifics as to how he intends to do that?

Isn't Hell supposed to be paved with good intentions?
