I don't know if our neighborhood will ever see a plow...our roads never got plowed after the last snowstorm. It is very treacherous in the Hamlet subdivision and I hope and pray that we don't see any accidents however, once you hit our streets, your fate is in your own hands. Maybe the city of Columbia will pay for any accidents that occur because of the neglect they are showing with not keeping our streets safe to travel on.
Angie, they seem to neglect a lot of streets off primary and secondary roads. I was shoveling snow along Derby Ridge on the 20th, and watched plow trucks go back and forth about 10 times, cleaning what had already been cleaned, all the while completely ignoring all the side streets.
Is there a number on your city web site you can call? What does your neighborhood covenant say about this issue?
I called the number for the City of Columbia that is responsible for keeping the streets plowed. The response to me was: "Yeah...we haven't gotten to that neighborhood yet. We have people out 24 hours a day. There is a lot of snow and it takes a while to get it cleared." I then asked, (this was yesterday morning) "Can you tell me if they will get to it sometime today?" and she said, "No, I can't tell you when." Well...it is noon on Saturday and guess what? Still no plow! I worry because we have young children in our neighborhood who may not always be conscious of cars traveling and there would be no way to stop quickly in case of an emergency. I know they changed the rule for clearing residence streets to 4 inches or more but guess they just don't care about some neighborhoods:(
Can you call one of the private plow companies in your area and explain your situation? Maybe they will take pity on your plight and help you perhaps.
