Attorney general offers recommendations regarding E. coli contamination

ST. LOUIS — Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster is announcing recommendations to address E. coli contamination concerns at Lake of the Ozarks.
He will discuss the recommendations during a 10 a.m. news conference in St. Louis.
Koster organized a meeting in August because E. coli contamination closed beaches at the Lake of the Ozarks over the past two summers. Koster's office says he will announce 12 recommendations developed from that meeting.

In 2009, The Kansas City Star reported that the Missouri Department of Natural Resources waited more than a month to release results from a water quality test showing high E. coli levels at Lake of the Ozarks.
E. coli is a bacterium found in the intestinal tracts of warm-blooded animals, including humans. Some strains can cause gastrointestinal illness.
