PrintCOLUMBIA —Missouri men's basketball recruit Tony Mitchell has been waiting since last summer to be declared academically eligible by the NCAA.
Tuesday marks the last day to enroll in classes at MU for the spring 2011 semester. But Mitchell also has the option of becoming a full-time student during the second 8-week session of the semester, which begins March 14.
Mitchell, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound small forward, was rated by Rivals.com as the No. 12 high school recruit in the nation. Questions were raised about credits Mitchell brought with him from Center of Life Academy when he transferred to Pinkston High School in Dallas. Fourteen of those credits were nontransferable, and make-up credits ended up being taken away because of disputed testing.
Missouri men’s basketball coach Mike Anderson continues to remain quiet about Mitchell’s situation.
“There is no update at this time," Anderson said during the Big 12 media call on Monday morning. “Hopefully, soon.”
It has been reported by Mike DeArmond of the Kansas City Star that the NCAA recently ruled Mitchell to be ineligible and that Missouri was appealing the decision. And, according to Seth Davis of Sports Illustrated, Missouri reportedly received a FedEx package a couple of weeks ago from one of Mitchell’s former schools, Center of Life Academy in Miami, Fla. The package reportedly contained new details about Mitchell's academics, which Missouri is using to appeal the NCAA’s decision, according to Davis.

I believe that Mitchell will not be playing basketball for MU, now or at any time in the future.
My guess is that the NCAA has been dealing with records so suspect that it's taken all this time to determine how much is truth.
