Missouri House speaker outlines redistricting steps

JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri House Speaker Steven Tilley has met with members of the state's congressional delegation about redrawing their districts.
Missouri is losing one of its nine seats in the U.S. House as a result of the 2010 Census, and it's up to the state legislature to draw the new boundaries.
Tilley and House Redistricting Committee Chairman John Diehl traveled to Washington this week to meet with each of the state's current House members.

Tilley says he expects the legislature to receive detailed census data by the end of February. He said the new districts will likely change in size to accommodate population growth in certain parts of the state.
A 2009 estimate shows that each district could get more than 100,000 new voters when the number of districts is reduced.
