For 34 years, I've been haunted by my sister's disappearance. Now, because of the incredible efforts of some dedicated people and the courage of two men, I now know without any doubt what happened to my beloved sister, Becky.
I cannot adequately express my gratitude to the Boone County prosecutor's office, especially to Richard Hicks and Cecily Daller, for their professionalism, hard work and, especially, their kindness. I don't believe anyone could have done a better job with such a difficult case.
I also want to thank Chris Egbert who continued pursuing this case when no one else seemed to care. His efforts comforted my parents to the ends of their lives.
Detective John Short and his fellow officers at the Columbia Police Department did not hesitate to give their all to what must have looked like a lost cause.
Others who deserve recognition and thanks include the many witnesses, especially Harry Moore and William Simmons. They came and told the truth despite having to relive portions of their lives they would gladly forget.
Finally, my sincere thanks to the jury who diligently listened with open minds and returned the verdict that made Jan. 28, 2011, one of the happiest days of my life.
Kathy E. Doisy lives in Columbia.
