TODAY'S QUESTION: What precautions should residents take to deal with this winter storm?

Columbia is in the beginning stages of what is predicted to be a dangerous winter storm.

A tenth of an inch of ice, 12-21 inches of snow, heavy winds and frigid temperatures are expected through noon Wednesday.

Public works agencies have released a list of tips to help maintain safe road conditions before, during and after the storm. The Missouri Department of Transportation released a list that includes:

• Try to stay in unless that cannot be avoided.
• Know how your vehicle responds to slippery conditions.
• Equip your car with a flashlight, first aid kit, blankets and sand to be used for traction in case your car gets stuck.
• Drive slowly, adjust how you accelerate and brake sooner than in normal circumstances.
• Wear a seat belt.
• Double the space between your vehicle and others.

• Try to move your car off of the street whenever possible.

These are only few of many things that can be done to promote a safe trip.
