COLUMBIA — An almost record setting 17-plus inches of snow blanketed Columbia and much of the Midwest early Tuesday morning. With roads becoming impassable and even walking a challenge, a fact to which my rear can attest, city services and many businesses shut down.
We were being trapped, and all we could do was sit and watch.
Even on the third day after the snowfall, roads were still dicey with main thoroughfares the safest bets. Many residential roads remained unplowed. The sheer volume of snow had made it hard to clear. Downtown Columbia was a maze of giant snow walls created by plows and bulldozers that I, at six-feet, was easily hidden behind.

This is fantastic. I'm embarrassed to admit I watched the last portion over and over again, hoping to spot myself as I walked down Hitt Street. But shouldn't it have said the downtown segment started at 10 p.m. Monday, rather than 10 p.m. Tuesday? The last few days have been a snowy blur, but I thought the ground was covered by Tuesday night.
