PrintThe Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl on Sunday night. But between the plays on the field, audiences stayed tuned in to watch the most anticipated commercials of the year.
For some, watching the ads is more entertaining than watching the actual game. The commercials, which cost $100,000 a second, become water cooler talk the next day at work, as people reminisce over those that made them laugh the hardest.
USA TODAY's annual “Ad Meter,” in which a panel of viewers watched and ranked the ads, picked Bud Light’s ad involving catering dogs and a Doritos ad where a pug lunges at a chip as the best of the bunch. Another popular entry was a Volkswagen ad featuring a young boy dressed as Darth Vader. It was released before the game and received more than 13 million views on YouTube.

As compared to last year, my thought is that they were about the same...not the punch I expected given the cost of them!
That being said, I did really enjoy the VW commercial with the little one playing Darth Vader! The reaction he gave when the car started was priceless!
I liked the Bieber/Ozzy, Darth Vader VW, and the Audi prison break ads. The Teleflora commercial got a big laugh at the party I was at, while the Doritos finger licker and Go Daddy unveiling Joan Rivers were a bit ugh.
A few clever ones, but in the main, I thought most of them appealed to the 12 year-old set, dumb and tasteless (written with apologies to the 12 year-olds).
I thought most of the commercials were underwhelming to say the least. The Volkswagon one was the best, really? The only memorable commerical was the Chrysler commercial imported from Detroit.
The Chrysler commercial was my top ranked one, followed by the VW commercial. The other ones went for cheap laughs and stupidity, not my cup of tea.
