Missouri Southern expected to drop 2 programs

JOPLIN — Missouri Southern State University officials say the school likely will drop two academic programs after a state-mandated review at all public universities and colleges.

The Joplin Globe reported Tuesday that the university in Joplin expects to phase out baccalaureate programs in justice studies and management technology in the next few years.

A.J. Anglin, vice president for academic affairs at the university, said the decision requires final approval from the Missouri Department of Higher Education. He said arrangements will be made to help students majoring in the programs complete their degrees.

The moves come after Gov. Jay Nixon ordered a statewide review of all academic programs in an effort to end programs that attract little student interest.
