COLUMBIA — There has been much debate recently about which major college basketball conference is the best in America.
When the latest Associated Press rankings were released Monday, Kansas and Texas in the Big 12 held the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively. The Big 12 is also the only conference in the nation with every team ranked in the top 150 of the latest Ratings Percentage Index.
However, other conferences such as the Big East and Big Ten can also stake a claim as the toughest basketball conference in America. The Big East has three teams ranked in the AP Top 10 (Pitt, Notre Dame and Georgetown) and 11 teams that are above .500 in conference play.
Meanwhile, the Big Ten has teams such as No. 2 Ohio State, which was the last undefeated team to lose a game this season. That happened on Saturday to fellow-Top 10 opponent and Big Ten member Wisconsin.

Unfortunately there will be a huge Big XII bias on the Missourian website, but I believe the combined tradition and perennial competitiveness of the Big East makes it the 'best' basketball conference. What they lack in top 3 teams, they easily make up for in intense rivalries and a far more level playing field than the other two conferences.
That said, go Tigers!
