A self-imposed deadline set by Albert Pujols to negotiate terms for a new contract with the St. Louis Cardinals after the 2011 season passed at noon Wednesday.
ESPN reported that without a new deal, Pujols will likely test the free-agent market after this season.
The nine-time all-star said discussions about his contract will be put on hold in order to keep his team focused for the upcoming season. Talks of his next move will resume after the season ends.
MLB.com said Pujols' yearly paycheck was the root of negotiations. He is set to receive $16 million in 2011 from the Cardinals.
What price, if any, should the Cardinals should pay to sign Pujols?
