COLUMBIA — Columbia police located 8-year-old Sedrick L. Lewis Jr. at about 1 a.m. Tuesday, acting on a tip indicating he was with his father at a residence in Miami, Missouri.
Sedrick Lewis Sr. picked his son up after school Monday without his mother's consent. There is currently a court order prohibiting unsupervised visits between Lewis and his son, according to a press release from Sgt. Jill Wieneke of the Columbia Police Department.
Officers found the boy unharmed and in good health.
Officers believe Lewis Sr. fled the Miami residence when authorities arrived and has not been found, according to the release. He is wanted for interference with custody.
According to a previous news release, Lewis Sr. has a tattoo that says "LEW" on his upper right arm and a tattoo of a cross on his upper left arm.
Sgt. Wieneke said in an e-mail Tuesday morning that an Amber Alert was never officially issued for the boy because the issuing agency did not believe it met the criteria.
Sedrick was returned to his mother 14 hours after his disappearance was reported.
