PrintCOLUMBIA — The Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission approved a new highway interchange on U.S. 63 and Route H and two southbound lanes for U.S. 63 on Wednesday.
Construction is set to begin late this summer. Nicole Hood, MoDOT transportation project manager, said contractors will submit their bids for the project by June 24. After a notice to proceed in mid-August, the projects will begin.

- MODOT has unveiled its proposed design for a new interchange at U.S. 63 and Route H near Columbia Regional Airport.
Boone County Presiding Commissioner Ed Robb said the estimated $14 million construction should take approximately 18 months, providing there are not winter problems. Completion is expected to be late 2012 or early 2013.
The two southbound lanes will stretch three miles from Route H to just north of Missouri 163 in what is now the median. When the new lanes are opened, the current lanes will become an outer access road.
Parts of the road will be sectioned off for short periods of time, but traffic will continue to flow, Hood said. A detour will be set up for Route H.
Robb said he expects to receive an "overwhelming approval" at the public meeting on March 22 at Lenoir Community Center.
“This has been the number one priority of southern Boone County for at least 15 years,” Robb said.
