PrintThe True/False Film Festival came to a close Sunday night after four days of screening 43 films.
The documentary film festival was filled with activities alongside film screenings. Events such as musical performances and parties accompanied the festival this weekend. Panels, a documentary game show and a campfire discussion with filmmakers were also part of the festivities.
The festival started with the Jubilee Gala, a costume party and cocktail mixer that was held Thursday night before a screening of “Benda Bilili!”
The March March parade was held Friday afternoon. Participants dressed in costumes, some coordinating with this year’s festival theme of Trees/Forest.
For the first time, a 5K True Life Run was held on Saturday. Some of the proceeds from the run went to the True Life Fund. This year’s fund recipients were the three main characters from “The Interrupters,” who work with the anti-violence group CeaseFire in Chicago.

The best part of my True/False weekend was all the awesome, creative people I met. My fellow volunteers, people standing near me in the Q, musicians and even a chance meeting with Bob Ingersol from Project Nim were highlights. That being said, Project Nim was definitely my favorite film of the five I saw.
