Bowers and English declare for 2011 NBA Draft without agents

Two Missouri men's basketball players have declared for the 2011 NBA Draft according to a press release from MU spokesman Dave Reiter.

Junior guard Kim English and junior forward Laurence Bowers will enter their names for consideration but are not hiring agents. Without agents, English and Bowers can retain their collegiate eligibility and can return to Missouri for their senior seasons if they remove their names from the draft by May 8.

“This is an opportunity I am looking forward to, to see where I stand as a basketball player,” English said. “I have loved my experience at Missouri, and I will make sure everything is in order for me to return if that’s the best decision for me and my family. This rule is in place for us, the player, so I want to take advantage of it and do what I can do to become a better all-around player.”

English averaged 10 points a game this season for the Tigers, a decrease in the 14-point average from his sophomore year. He currently has 1,063 career points at Missouri.

Bowers led Missouri in rebounds (6.1 per game) and was second in scoring (11.6 points per game) this season. He also blocked 62 shots, second most in the Big 12 Conference.

“I think for anyone who plays college basketball, having a chance to play in the NBA is a dream,” Bowers said. “I had a chance to talk with my family and other loved ones and this is something I want to do. This rule is in place to allow guys like us to explore their options and make an informed decision.”
