TODAY'S QUESTION: What do you think about administrators deleting a thread with anti-gay comments on MU's Facebook page?

MU administrators decided to delete an entire Facebook thread as a result of students' complaints about several anti-gay comments.

The Facebook page alerted students to events Monday and Tuesday — "Pouring Tea: Black Gay Men of the South Tell Their Tales" and "In Search of Countess Vivian: Queerness and the Making of Southern History" — presented by E. Patrick Johnson, chair of Northwestern's department of performance studies.

The thread was taken down Tuesday but a message was posted Wednesday on MU's Facebook page explaining that many of the comments violated the university's posting policy, and that appropriate comments were left up for at least 24 hours.

The thread was ultimately deleted, the message said, because the event was over and the thread was no longer pertinent.

Do you think it was appropriate for MU to delete the entire thread? Do you think it sends a message of intolerance for inappropriate comments, or do you think it covers up a problem the university should look at?
