PrintCOLUMBIA — Just a few hours after NFL players began showing up to practice facilities for the first time in nearly two months on Friday, the NFL lockout was reinstated.
The lockout was reinstated after an appeals court granted the NFL a temporary hold on U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson's April 25 order to end the lockout.
Immediately following the decision, the owners reinstated the lockout. The owners are now asking that Nelson's order be overturned altogether.
On Monday, the NFL filed a brief with the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis, stating that the lockout should remain on hold permanently while the two sides hash things out in court.
"The most important things for us is to obviously respect the decisions of the court, and secondly, make sure we proceed in an orderly fashion and inform all 32 of our clubs to make sure we're doing it in a responsible fashion," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said.
Monday's filings are the latest salvos in the bitter fight over the $9 billion business.
The NFL lockout is also preventing rookies such as former Missouri players Aldon Smith, Blaine Gabbert and Andrew Gachkar, all of whom were drafted in last week's NFL Draft, from signing contracts with their new teams.
NFL teams, like the St. Louis Rams, announced via Twitter that it is were pushing back the deadline for renewing season tickets to June 1 to "provide our fans flexibility given the current labor uncertainty."
