COLUMBIA — Columbia Police arrested a 19-year-old man Saturday after he spent two days in the hospital. Police found the man to have packaged crack cocaine and marijuana. He was involved in a car accident Thursday.
Columbia Police Sgt. Eric White said the Columbia man was driving on Broadway in a red SUV around 8 p.m. on Thursday when an officer tried to pull him over for speeding. The man didn't stop and continued onto Stadium Boulevard, then east on Rollins Road. The officer decided not to chase because it was too dangerous, White said.
As the man was rounding a corner from Rollins Road to head north on Maplewood Drive, he collided with a mid-sized gray car heading south, sending its two passengers to the hospital for neck and back injuries, according to a previous Missourian report.
The man in the red SUV tried to take off on foot, but was apprehended. White said police found crack cocaine and marijuana, both packaged to sell, on the man. A gun was also found in the red SUV, he said.
Darius Devon Dansberry of 1207 Larch Court, Apt. A, was arrested at noon Saturday on suspicion of drug trafficking, unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
Bonds for the arrest total $109,000. Dansberry was being held at Boone County Jail as of Sunday at 3 p.m.
