COLUMBIA — No damage or injuries were reported in Boone County from severe thunderstorms that swept through the area Wednesday afternoon, Zim Schwartze, director of the Columbia Office of Emergency Services, said.
Sirens sounded in Columbia and the remainder of Boone County about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, and the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning minutes later.
The worst of the severe storms appeared to strike southern Boone County.
Ashland Police Chief Anthony Consiglio said the city had pea-sized hail, but no damage was reported. Wind gusts up to 50 mph in Ashland were reported by the National Weather Service.
At Sanborn Field on the MU campus, 1.48 inches of rain was recorded. Boone County is under a flash flood warning until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
