COLUMBIA — New City Manager Mike Matthes made his first State of the City address available to the public Friday on the city's website.
Matthes' assessment primarily concerned Columbia's financial and economic situations, specifically its status weathering the recession.
Matthes said increases in sales tax revenue, the value of commercial permits and decreases in unemployment all indicate economic recovery in Columbia.
He said the themes of public service and high-performance city government will be his focus in the coming year.
He also said he plans to stimulate economic recovery by increasing regional partnerships by way of an increased flight load through Columbia Regional Airport, increasing investments in infrastructure and through tourism-oriented policing.
