COLUMBIA — City Manager Mike Matthes announced plans Wednesday for a new program designed to facilitate conversation with citizens over coffee.
Starting next week, Matthes will meet for one-on-one conversations with six citizens every Friday for 10 minutes each for "Coffee with the Manager." The discussions will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the City Hall lobby near the Columbia Coffee Express stand.
"No topic is off-limits," Matthes said in a news release.
The goal of the program is to meet more people and learn what they care about, the release said.
Matthes’ assistant, Carol Rhodes, will be present to record concerns and follow up with assignments to the most helpful city staff members, Matthes said in the release.
"He feels that city government needs to be in a position to serve the people," said Communications Director Toni Messina.
Anyone who would like to participate must register by 5 p.m. the Wednesday before the Friday session by going to the program's website or by calling 874-7214 and leaving your name, topic, preferred conversation date and some contact information.
Dates are available from July 15 to Dec. 30 and are listed on the city's website.
