We need extended bus service for our fellow citizens to get to work and support their families. That should be our city manager's No.1 priority.
Tear out those huge downtown planters — they block vision when pulling out of parking spaces, and the yearly cost to plant and water them must be considerable.
Do away with the city light department calendars that go right into our trash and are surely expensive to print and mail.
Don't be so bureaucratic about what comes out of which department budget. Surely the city can come up with $22,407 in annual savings.
City Manager Mike Matthes needs to ask Columbia residents for ideas to cut costs on nonessentials so that we can help Columbia families get to work and back.

Your numbers are WAY off. $22,407 was the proposed value to run a six-month pilot for a whopping two bus routes. $450,000 is the projected cost for the entire system for a year.
