PrintLYNDON, Kan. — Former Columbia Water and Light director James Kraig Kahler, accused of killing four family members in Kansas, will be able to present evidence of a relationship between his wife and another woman.
Lawyers for the 48-year-old Kahler are expected to argue their client suffered a mental breakdown as a result of the relationship between his estranged wife, Karen Kahler, and a woman named Sunny Reese.
Chief Judge Phillip Fromme of the Osage County District Court ruled for the defense Wednesday on the issue of the other-woman evidence. The trial is scheduled to start Aug. 8.
Kahler is charged with four counts of capital murder in the November 2009 shootings of his wife; their two teenage daughters, Emily and Lauren Kahler; and his wife's grandmother, Dorothy Wight, at Wight's Burlingame home.
Kahler's wife filed for divorce in January 2009 in Columbia while Kahler was working for the Water and Light department.

I'm always so amazed at how everyone preaches for the rights of the accused... what about the rights of those who were wronged (killed, asulted, injured)? What about the rights of the victim?
