Route H closes Aug. 23 for interchange construction

COLUMBIA — Route H at U.S. 63 will be closed to drivers starting Aug. 23, said Charles Sullivan, resident engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The construction is part of the $9.8 million project to build a new diamond interchange at Route H near the Columbia Regional Airport.

Drivers will detour on Route AB to Rangeline Road for about two months while the first portion of the interchange is constructed at Route H and Hardwick Lane, Sullivan said. When that is finished, people will be able to access Route H via Hardwick Lane. Construction will ultimately last into the fall of 2012, Sullivan said.

Drivers can expect reduced speed limits on U.S. 63 as the contractors will be moving dirt from the median between the northbound and southbound lanes from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Aug. 23. There will still be two lanes of traffic, Sullivan said.
