COLUMBIA — A Friday afternoon bank robbery at Boone County National Bank was the sixth commercial burglary reported in Columbia since Aug. 1.
At about 1:18 p.m., a man slid a note toward a teller at the bank's West Broadway branch, demanding an undisclosed amount of money, said police spokeswoman Latisha Stroer. The man didn't say whether he had a gun, but reached his hand behind his back and kept it there until he was handed the cash, Stroer said, adding that she wasn't sure if there were customers at the bank at the time.

Broadway on Friday. Police dogs are used when suspects flee on foot, but the suspect was not found after the initial search.
Columbia police processed video surveillance from the robbery Friday afternoon, said Mary Wilkerson, the bank's senior vice president of marketing. A photo of the suspect was released Friday evening.
“(The video) is all digital and (the police) process it down to what’s most useful,” Wilkerson said.
The suspect was described as a white man, about 6 feet tall with a heavy build. He has dark hair and a goatee, Stroer said.
In the surveillance footage, Stroer said, he was wearing a blue shirt, jeans, a baseball cap and sunglasses.
He fled the scene and headed east on Broadway.
The police’s search dog, Raf, tracked the suspect with a team of officers. At approximately 3 p.m. Friday, the team returned without the suspect.
Stroer said this is not the first time this particular branch has been robbed. The last robbery at the branch occurred in March 2009, according to a previous Missourian report.
There were 10 commercial burglaries in Columbia in August 2010, according to RAIDS Online, a crime statistics website.
