COLUMBIA — Hickman High School is back to normal after an incident in the early afternoon led the Columbia Police Department to warn students to stay away from the west side of campus.

The warning stemmed from a traffic stop at 11:34 a.m. An off-duty Columbia police officer stopped a vehicle after noticing it failed to signal. The vehicle was pulled over in the back parking lot of McDonald's at 205 Business Loop 70 E. The officer detained three people, according to a news release from Public Information Officer Latisha Stroer.

No students were involved, and everyone was safe, Columbia Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark said. The school was not on lockdown, and it returned to normal 20 minutes after the warning, Denise Fernandez, Hickman High School spokeswoman, said.

An earlier news release said a gun was involved, but the Columbia Police Department has not confirmed this.

The Columbia Police Department has given no further information.
