PrintCOLUMBIA — Qualitest Pharmaceuticals issued a voluntary birth control pill recall Thursday due to packaging and dosage errors.
In a press release issued by Endo Pharmaceuticals, which owns Qualitest and manfactures generic medications, the affected birth control pills were incorrectly packaged, which made the "lot number and expiry date no longer visible."
Generic pharmaceutical company Qualitest Pharmaceuticals, a division of Enzo Pharmaceuticals, announced a recall of the following birth control pills:
-Cyclafem 7/7/7
-Cyclafem 1/35
-Emoquette
-Glidess FE 1.5/30
-Glidess FE 1/20
-Orsythia
-Previfem
-Tri-Previfem
The entire list of voluntarily recalled birth control pills can be found on the Enzo Pharmaceuticals Web site.
As a result of the packaging error, Endo said women are at risk of unintended pregnancies and should consult their doctors or pharmacists.
Columbia area pharmacies, including Walmart, Target, Sam's Club, Walgreens, Kilgore's Medical Pharmacy, Boone Plaza Pharmacy, Gerbes, Hy-Vee, University Pharmacy and Flow's Pharmacy said they do not carry the brands listed in the Endo press release.
A person who answered the phone at D&H Drugstore said the pharmacy stopped stocking Qualitest birth control pills even though it had not heard about a recall from Qualitest or Endo Pharmaceuticals.
As of 6:20 p.m., the MU Student Health Center had not responded to calls from the Missourian.
