ROLLA — Enrollment at Missouri University of Science and Technology has reached its highest level in nearly 30 years.
The Rolla school said this year's enrollment is 7,522 students, up 316 students from the official fall 2010 figure. Distance education programs grew by more than 25 percent, from 686 students to 863. On-campus enrollment has increased slightly more than 2 percent.
The school said it's educating more women, too. Total female enrollment hit 1,685 students.
The official enrollment figure is recorded at the end of the semester's fourth week.
Missouri S&T is part of the four-campus University of Missouri System.

The male-female ratio continues to be approximately 3-1, which is true of most technology universities, public and private, in the United States. Much effort has been given to recruiting female students, but ratios change little. Rather amazing when we consider starting salaries and employment opportunities available to today's female engineering graduates.
