Like a fine wine
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden will check in at an age of 28 years, 8 days when the Cowboys take the field against Missouri Saturday. Weeden came to Oklahoma State in 2007 after spending five seasons playing minor league baseball with the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Kansas City Royals organizations. Weeden was a second round pick of the Yankees in 2002, but finished his minor league baseball career without reaching AA, posting a cumulative record of 19-26 with a 5.02 ERA.
Oh, and in case you were wondering the average age of Oklahoma State's student body is 21.4.
You can go home again
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy is the only current head coach in the Big 12 that has the opportunity to coach his alma mater. Gundy quarterbacked the 1987 and 1988 editions of the Cowboys to 10-win seasons. Of course, he had the assistance of not one, but two hall-of-fame running backs in Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas.
It's also worth noting that the Cowboys next 10-plus wins season after that came in 2010, with Gundy as head coach.
It's not easy being green
In 2002, Oklahoma State was chosen as one of five regional centers for the Sun Grant Initiative, a project put in place by U.S. Congress through the Sun Grant Initiative Act. Sun Grant schools are given federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation as well as the Department of Energy and the Department of Agriculture to perform biomass and bioenergy research.
Oklahoma State is the center for the South Central region, which includes Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico. The other four regional centers are Cornell University (Northeast region), the University of Tennessee (Southeast region), Oregon State University (Western Region) and South Dakota State University (North Central region).
