During its next meeting, the Columbia City Council might consider an ordinance approved by the Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission on Sept. 21 to allow skateboarding in more parts of the city.
As part of the ordinance, skaters would be allowed to skateboard downtown on city streets but not on sidewalks. In other parts of the city, skaters would be allowed on sidewalks and streets, as long as they followed the regulations currently in place for cyclists.

Luke Creamer, 9, practices skating at the Columbia Skate Park on Tuesday. The park is located in Columbia Cosmopolitan Recreation Area. Creamer recently took up skating as the school year began and thinks skating in other parts of the city would be cool. "That'd be pretty cool," said Creamer. "I'd be able to do like small tricks [with my skateboard]."
