What does A&M stand for?
Texas A&M began as the the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas in 1876.
The stars at night are big and bright deep in the heart of ... Qatar?
Like many major state universities in the United States, Texas A&M has several branch campuses. Unlike many major state universities in the United States, one of A&M's branches is in Doha, Qatar. That's Qatar the country, located halfway around the world in the Middle East. The inaugural class in 2003 had 29 students, and the current enrollment at the Qatar branch is 400 students.
An old pro
Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman is the only coach in the Big 12 to have previously worked as the head coach of an NFL team. Sherman coached the Green Bay Packers from 2000 to 2005. He went 59-43 at the helm of the Packers, leading them to the playoffs in four of six seasons.
Presidential pedigree
If current Texas governor and Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry were to win the general election next year, he wouldn't be the first head of state to graduate from Texas A&M. The former president of Panama, Martin Torrijos, is an alumnus, as is the former president of Bolivia, Jorge Quiroga.
