In the SEC, CBS gets first pick in terms of televising games. Most weeks in the past, the premier SEC game has been a 2:30 p.m. central time kickoff, but there are exceptions. For two or three of the biggest matchups of the year (eg. Alabama-LSU last week), CBS will move kickoff times to 7 p.m.
- The announcement that MU will join the Southeastern Conference has sparked much discussion about the cultural differences between MU and long-standing SEC schools. But how does Missouri fit in as a state compared to other SEC states?
All of the games not picked up by CBS go to ESPN. ESPN can put as many games as it wants to on its different platforms (ie. ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU) and then holds the rights to distribute the rest to regional cable networks that it has agreements with.
Here's where it gets interesting for Missouri fans. As of now, ESPN distributes those lower level games to channels like Comcast Sports South and Fox Sports South, channels that aren't available in mid-Missouri. It is not known at this time if or how that distribution will change. One solution would be for Fox Sports Midwest to start showing those games, but nothing has been finalized.
In addition, it has been reported that ESPN will reopen its contract with the SEC for further negotiation, so this information is subject to change based on what comes out of that.
