Swooping in

The legendary Sheryl Swoopes led the Texas Tech women's basketball team to the school's only national title in any sport. The 1993 Texas Tech team defeated Ohio State 84-82 in Atlanta; Swoopes set an NCAA championship record with 47 points and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Swoopes, a native of Brownfield, Texas, went on to be a six-time WNBA all-star, a three-time WNBA MVP and a three-time Olympic Gold Medalist.

No offense, but that's poor offense

In 1939, Texas Tech faced off against Centenary in Shreveport, La., in a torrential rainstorm. The teams punted an astonishing 77 times in the game, which ended in a 0-0 tie. Charlie Calhoun's 36 punts still stand as an NCAA record for a single game. Calhoun's punting yardage total? 1,316 yards.

This one's for all the tortillas

Although it's become a banned practice at Jones AT&T Stadium, students are still sometimes prone to throwing tortillas onto the field after touchdowns. It's listed under "traditions" at Texas Tech, but this odd occurrence seems to have fallen by the wayside after numerous delay of game penalties were given to the Red Raiders by the referees.
