The biggest tourist attraction in Shreveport is its numerous casinos. Harrah's Louisiana Downs, Sam's Town, El Dorado and the Horseshoe are just a few of the places you can try your luck. Most of the casinos are along the shores of the Red River, which separates Shreveport from its neighbor Bossier City.
Gumbo time
Missouri wide receiver and Shreveport native L'Damian Washington said the best thing to do in Shreveport is go out and "get yourself a good pot of cajun gumbo."
He recommended Ernest's, widely regarded as one of Shreveport's finest restaurants, as the place to get it.
Put your blinders on
If you're looking for a place to go out without the risk of gambling losses, Washington recommended the "Blind Tiger" in downtown Shreveport. The name is an homage to the prohibition days (illegal saloons were called Blind Tigers), and the logo looks like a more fierce Truman with sweet sunglasses playing a piano.
If you go early, the menu includes the fried seafood and open faced po' boys fans will be craving when they cross the Louisiana border.
Down on the boardwalk
Forget to buy a holiday gift for a family member? Save face by heading across the Red River to Bossier City's Louisiana Boardwalk. The outdoor mall features outlets from Banana Republic, Nike and Wilson's Leather, among others. Chain restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings, Joe's Crab Shack and Salt Grass Steakhouse also populate the area.
Who knows? You just might run into a Missourian reporter. The media hotel is also in the vicinity.
