PrintCOLUMBIA — The Columbia Regency mobile home park will officially be closed in summer 2012. The extended moving date and a minimum moving allowance of $2,300 given to each tenant were among the reasons the Columbia City Council gave for agreeing to rezone the property in late November.
The property's owner, Colorado-based Churchill Group, notified residents that the park would close in February. Property buyer Aspen Heights agreed — if the council rezoned the property to allow for the company's proposed student housing development — to extend that date and give residents more time to find another place to live.

Melissa Dinwiddie, a Columbia Regency resident for the past seven years, decided to move her family and home sooner rather than later. The process of moving her mobile home from Regency to Colonial Village mobile home park in north Columbia took more than two weeks in early December and nearly resulted in irreparable damage to her home.
Now, she and her family — her four children, mother and brother — are still settling into their new community.

Thank you for staying with this story and showing us the complexity of moving a "mobile home." I suspect her experience will be what others will experience as they try to move their homes.
I feel for her and what she is having to go through. My husband and I moved from there last year, for the longest time we had lived there, but we knew the writing was on the wall with that place between the people not caring anymore how they kept or didn't keep yards or homes up, to the poor management who didn't care either, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to buy out land and city council selling the people out because they figured if the people don't care about making homes nice or presentable then why should we?? So that is why we left after so long at park (20 years). Anyway good luck to this woman and her family and to the other family's in same situation.
