PrintCOLUMBIA — The City Council on Tuesday will decide whether to end the three-month break on rent for residents facing closure of mobile home parks.
The ordinance currently grants a three-month rate abatement to residents who must leave a mobile home park.
Its legality has been questioned by Third Ward Councilman Gary Kespohl and City Counselor Fred Boeckmann.
Other items to be addressed Tuesday night include:
- A public hearing on construction of sidewalk improvements along Broadway that was tabled at the Dec. 5 meeting.
- First read of a resolution revising the reimbursement policy for city staff travel costs.
- First read of a bill that would repeal the extra business license tax levied by the Special Business District in anticipation of its transition into the Downtown Community Improvement District.
- First read of a bill calling for the April 3 municipal election of council members in Wards 2 and 6. Second Ward Councilman Jason Thornhill has announced he will not seek re-election. Nominating petitions must be filed no later than Jan. 10.
- Staff report recommending a temporary shelter for the homeless at 804 N. Old 63 for the months of January and February.
- Staff report to allow private contractors to clear neighborhoods and city streets of snow and give plowing priority to neighborhoods that restrict street parking during heavy snowfall.
- Presentation of designs for a new terminal building at Columbia Regional Airport, with estimated costs between $17 million and $26 million.
Tuesday's meeting agenda can be found at the city's website. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 701 E. Broadway.
City offices will be closed Monday for the New Year's holiday.
