COLUMBIA — This year's guest speaker at the 8th Annual First Pitch Celebration will be current Kansas City Royals All-Star and former Missouri pitcher Aaron Crow.
The dinner is an opportunity for the Columbia community to join the Missouri baseball program to recognize past and present achievements.
During the dinner, the program will introduce past and present players, provide a 2012 season outlook and host a silent auction featuring professional and collegiate items. Crow, one of Missouri's most decorated pitchers of all-time, will also speak.
While playing for the Falmouth Commodores, he won the Robert A. McNeece Award as the top professional prospect in the 2007 Cape Cod Baseball League season. He was selected in the first round of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft by the Washington Nationals but, after negotiations stalled, did not sign.
Eventually signing a contract with the Royals on Sept. 15, 2009, Crow made his major league debut on March 31, 2011, which was Opening Day. In his debut, Crow struck out three of the four Angels batters he faced.
This year's dinner will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 4, at the Hampton Inn off of Stadium Boulevard.
