COLUMBIA — If junior Malcolm Pennix had any jitters in his first meet as a Missouri track and field athlete Friday, they didn't last. And after long jumping 7.74 meters, his presence was surely felt.
The mark was the best in the nation so far this season. Needless to say, it was enough to win the event. It also earned Pennix the Big 12 Track and Field Male Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
In his Missouri debut at this past week's MU-KU Border Dual, Pennix not only set a personal-best but also long-jumped further than any other Tiger since Ajay Agbebaku jumped 7.84 meters in 1974.
The mark puts Pennix third on Missouri's all-time indoor long jump performance list.
Pennix also won the men's 60-meter dash at the meet with a time of 6.78 seconds, good enough for the third-best time in the program's history.
