COLUMBIA — A new doctor has been appointed to the Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri.

After a previous doctor left for a military deployment in September, abortions were halted. The clinic is now working with a new doctor, and services will resume in February.

When asked if the clinic was seeing more women after the Jefferson City Planned Parenthood merged with the Columbia location in November, spokesperson Michelle Trupiano said it's too soon to tell.

According to the Planned Parenthood website, the clinic's services include family planning, contraception, pregnancy and HIV testing, treatment of sexually transmitted infections, detection of cervical, testicular and breast cancers  and vaccinations for hepatitis and cervical cancer.

Trupiano said more than 90 percent of the services the clinic provides are preventative.
