COLUMBIA — An Iraqi author and scholar who was in Iraq during the 2003 U.S. invasion will have a book reading and signing Wednesday.
Mid-Missouri Peaceworks and the Peace Nook are going to host author Zaid Mahir for a free signing of his book "The Way to Baghdad: Day 18 of the War," according to a news release. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Peace Nook in downtown Columbia.

Mahir's latest book focuses on the events of April 6, 2003, the eighteenth day of the war, and gives a glimpse of Iraqi society, culture and politics at the transitional moment, as well as the psychological impact of living through the war, according to the release.
Mahir is now pursuing his doctorate in English and teaching at MU.
