COLUMBIA — The No. 4 Missouri men's basketball team made a comeback for the ages against No. 8 Kansas on Saturday night at Mizzou Arena.
Trailing 71-63 with fewer than three minutes to go, senior guard Marcus Denmon starting hitting shots. Denmon scored nine straight points as the Tigers shut out Kansas in the final minutes for a 74-71 victory.
Denmon led Missouri with 29 points, including a 6-of-9 effort from the 3-point line, and nine rebounds. Kim English contributed 18 points, and Michael Dixon had 15.
Senior center Ricardo Ratliffe struggled all game with foul trouble, but senior Steve Moore was able to help out with defense on Kansas center Thomas Robinson to keep the game in check. Robinson led Kansas with 25 points, and Tyshawn Taylor had 21.
The win moves Missouri (21-2) into a three-way tie atop the Big 12 standings with Baylor (21-2) and Kansas (18-5) with all three teams at 8-2 in the conference. The Tigers have little time to celebrate as their next game comes Monday at Oklahoma.
