COLUMBIA — Don Farris has decided to drop out of the Boone County Fire Protection District board election. He cited time constraints as his reason for withdrawing from the race.
"I already sit on three other boards," Farris said. "I didn't think I could do it justice."
Farris last ran in 2007, ultimately losing that race to Shelly Dometrorch, who is running for re-election this year.
Farris said he was running again this year because his experience on boards would be beneficial to the fire board. Farris has been on the board of directors for the Missouri Forest Products Association since 1980 and also operates Sentinel Lumber and Hardware in Ashland.
"I've always had a lot of interest in the fire board," Farris said.
Without Farris, current board members Shelly Dometrorch and Phyllis Fugit are essentially running unopposed for re-election, with two seats on the board available.
