Missouri women's basketball to host social media day

COLUMBIA — The Missouri women's basketball team will be hosting a social media day on Wednesday for its game against Iowa State at Mizzou Arena. 

The MU athletics department is offering $1 admission to those who "like" the team's Facebook page. A link to a coupon is available on the Missouri women's basketball team's Facebook page. 

Regular priced tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth. 

Previous games have featured trivia contests in which participants are selected to answer questions about the players. This time the entire arena will have the chance to answer and win prizes. 

A Twitter hashtag will be announced at the game. Fans will be able to answer trivia questions throughout the game by tweeting the answer and including the hashtag. 

"A lot of places are using social media to bridge the gap between fans and the team," Missouri women's basketball spokesperson Keith Soder said. "It's a great way for the team to interact with fans."

Soder said the athletics department is increasing use of social media for the women's basketball team, focusing on connecting with fans through the team's official Twitter and Facebook accounts.

"We like to keep it more on the main page where we can have some control over it," Soder said.

MU students receive free admission to all women's basketball games with a valid MU student ID.
