PrintCOLUMBIA — Gov. Jay Nixon announced the appointment and nominations of three Columbia residents to state commissions Friday.
Cheryl M. Darrough, Jeffrey Nichols and Russell A. Unger all of Columbia were chosen alongside people from throughout the state, according a news release.
Nixon appointed Darrough to the Appellate Judicial Commission. The commission is responsible for accepting and reviewing applications to fill judicial vacancies on the state Supreme Court and state Courts of Appeals. The commission then forwards three candidates to Nixon for selection.
Darrough is a billing manager for Columbia clinical psychologist Mark H. Thelen, according to the release. Her appointment is for the term ending Dec. 31, 2016.
Nixon nominated Nichols for the Crime Laboratory Review Commission. The commission reviews operations of Missouri crime laboratories that receive state funding.
Nichols is currently a team leader and trainer for the Forensic Evidence Team of the Columbia Police Department, according to the release. His nomination is for the term ending April 1, 2015.
Nixon re-nominated Unger for the Missouri Community Service Commission. The commission aims to improve community life by stressing the importance of volunteering.
Unger has been a member of the Missouri Community Service Commission since 2010 and is also a member of the Central Region Workforce Investment Board and Sheet Metal Workers' Local 36. His renomination is for a term ending Dec. 15, 2014.

I doubt that I will get an answer, but what are the declared political leanings of these three appointees?
I am of the perception that each time an opening needs to be filled, our Gov. appoints a Democrat if the position is one of future political influence and value.
And when the position is not of any political value, then he just appoints a well qualified person.
