PrintCOLUMBIA — Between 20 to 25 shots were fired early Saturday morning in downtown Columbia. One victim suffered a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening.
Columbia police officers were dispatched at about 1 a.m. to what police called "a large disturbance" outside Boone Tavern, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
A disturbance that started in the lobby of Boone Tavern had moved out into the street, police said.
The crowd scattered after gunshots were fired about 10 to 20 yards east of the officers who were assessing the situation, the release stated.
Police were later notified that a 19-year-old male victim was treated at a local emergency room for a gunshot wound that was not life threatening.
As of Saturday afternoon, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Jill Schlude said she did not know the victim's current condition.
No officers were injured, and no other victims have been reported to the police.
Several buildings, including the Boone County Government Center, and vehicles on the north side of Ninth Street between Walnut and Ash streets were damaged by gunfire.
Investigators have identified suspects, yet lack victims and witnesses willing to make statements regarding the incident, and therefore cannot establish a probable cause.
No arrests have been made as of Saturday afternoon.
