Missouri men's basketball team beats Texas A&M on the road

The Missouri men's basketball team earned another road win on Saturday in College Station, Texas.

The No. 3 Tigers beat Texas A&M 71-62 for their fifth Big 12 Conference road win this season. It was their first road win against the Aggies since 2001.

Missouri led for the entire second half after finishing the first half on a 7-0 run.

Texas A&M made a late surge, closing Missouri's lead to just five points with about a minute to play. Steve Moore took a charge on the next possession to turn the momentum back in favor of the Tigers. Marcus Denmon then hit a 3-pointer to put the game out of reach.

Denmon scored 14 points. Kim English hit three 3-pointers and led the team with 21 points, and Michael Dixon contributed 15 with a strong second half. 

“We really ran good offense today," Missouri coach Frank Haith said in a postgame radio interview. "We executed really well down stretch.”

The Tigers turned the ball over 14 times but made up for it by out-rebounding Texas A&M by 10.

The one negative from Missouri's victory came midway through the second half when senior Matt Pressey left the game after tweaking his ankle. He appeared to be OK when he returned to the bench from the locker room toward the end of the game. 

Missouri can't afford to lose anybody. The team has been playing with only seven scholarship players since Laurence Bowers suffered a season-ending knee injury in October and Kadeem Green transferred in early January.

Kansas (22-5, 12-2) beat Texas Tech 83-50 Saturday night to remain even with Missouri (25-2, 12-2) at the top the Big 12 standings.

Missouri's next game is against Kansas State (18-8, 7-7) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mizzou Arena. Kansas State beat Missouri 75-59 in the teams' first meeting and is coming off a big 57-56 win at Baylor on Saturday. 

“We understand," Haith said. "They really handed it to us earlier in the year, so we’re going to have to have our very best effort.”
