COLUMBIA — For the first time this season, the Missouri men's basketball team lost a game at Mizzou Arena.
The Tigers lost 78-68 to Kansas State on Tuesday night. Missouri trailed for almost the entire game, by as much as 16 at one point in the second half.
No. 3-ranked Missouri showed some fight by cutting the lead to as little as three later in the second half, but Kansas State held off the charge. The Wildcats shot 49 percent, while Missouri shot just 33 percent.
Michael Dixon's 21 points led the Tigers and Marcus Denmon scored 19. Rodney McGruder led Kansas State with 24 points.
The loss was just the Tigers' fourth home loss in the past four seasons. They went undefeated at home during the 2008-09 season, and lost just once at Mizzou Arena last season.
Missouri is now 25-3 overall, with two losses to Kansas State this season. That record matches the best start to a season through 28 games, set by the 1989-90 and 1993-94 teams.
The Tigers can still win the Big 12 if they can beat Kansas at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Lawrence, Kan.
